Bit by Bit

Hi. First I need to admit I have never been much of a blogger. But once again I wanna try. I feel like I am at a crossroads with my life and I want to share and document my transformation to the next part of my life. My youngest baby turned 4 last month and we are done having kids. I am enjoying watching them grow and learn. I am at peace with having no more kids. It's time for the next stage in life. Many things have brought me to this place. As a kid I always loved animals.  I remember very clearly visiting a farm and staying overnight in Iowa, I think, with a youth group. It was such a fantastic experience....

So when I met my husband and finally settled living in his hometown out in the country after moving around a bit, I started looking into raising chickens. They turned out to be mostly roosters and went to some people for the pot when they turned mean fighting for that one poor hen. We had some goats and things happened and we got rid of them. But that is to say I did not enjoy them. I thoroughly loved that experience. I hope to have it again soon.

I have never had a green thumb and for the first time I had a small productive garden last year and jarred 3 cans of tomato sauce. It was delicious! I had jarred blueberry and fig jam before but never tomatoes.

So from places and people I hear about the junk going into our food and I start searching on the internet about these things. I come across the way of life called sustainable living. The more I read the more I start changing my mindset.  This is my journey to becoming more independent of the Walmart, the main "go to" for EVERYTHING here in this small Mississippi town.

The thing is I need to start small, make little changes so my family will willingly go on this journey with me. It's easy to make changes for yourself but taking 5 different personalities with you- different story.

So here we go.........this is my (our) journey. Bit by bit.....
